Manganese Mining

Swellendam Manganese Mine

Chromemax International has a share in a small manganese mine located close to the town of Swellendam in the Western Cape province. This is an old mine that was taken over in 2016 by Chromemax International and its partner in the mine. The mine has produced about 3000 tons of 36% Mn ore since then, but is not currently working due to environmental and contractual issues that needs to be resolved. We are endeavouring to solve these problems within the first half of 2018 and restart mining.

Tolwe Manganese Mine

Chromemax International has applied for a prospecting right for Manganese ore over 800 hectares of land approximately 80 km from the town of Modilmolle in the Limpopo province. The application has been accepted by the Department of Mineral and Energy Resources, and final approval to go ahead with the environmental impact studies etc is expected in the near future. The time frame to start mining this area is 4 to 6 months, thus by mid 2018. This right previously belonged to our in-house geologist and the ore body has been well documented. Bulk sampling and site establishment will commence immediately on approval of the prospecting right by the DMR. This is envisioned as large scale mine and the targeted production would be 60 000 tons per month of a 38% Mn ore.
